A Quantum Particle Undergoing Continuous Observation

چکیده
A stochastic model for the continuous nondemolition ohservation of the position of a quantum particle in a potential field and a bo-son reservoir is given. lt is shown that any Gaussian wave function evolving according to the posterior wave equation with a quadratic potential collapses to a Gaussian wave packet given by the stationary solution of this equation.. The recently developed methods of quantum stochastic calculus [7, ?] can serve for the description of the time-development of continuously observed quantum systems [1, 4, 5]. We apply this approach to describe the time-behaviour of a one-dimensional quantum particle in the field of the linear force F = kx + mg. The effect of coupling of the particle to a measuring apparatus is represented by an extra stochastic force. Assuming a non-ideal indirect observation of the particle position one can select such an observation channel that the observation is nondemolition [4, 5], i.e. it does not affect the actual as well as the future states of the perturbed particle. The posterior dynamics of the observed particle is then given by the nonlinear stochastic wave equations rigorously derived by quantum filtering method in [4, 3].

A New Wave Equation For a Continuous Nondemolition Measurement
A stochastic model for nondemolition continuous measurement in a quantum system is given. It is shown that the posterior dynamics, including a continuous collapse of the wave function, is described by a nonlinear stochastic wave equation. For a particle in an electromagnetic field it reduces the Schrödinger equation with extra imaginary stochastic potentials. According to the statistical interp...
متن کاملNondemolition observation of a free quantum particle.
A stochastic model of a continuous nondemolition observation of a free quantum Brownian motion is presented. The nonlinear stochastic wave equation describing the posterior dynamics of the observed quantum system is solved in a Gaussian case for a free particle of mass m > 0. It is shown that the dispersion of the wave packet does not increase to infinity like for the free unobserved particle b...

A brief presentation of the basic concepts in quantum probability theory is given in comparison to the classical one. The notion of quantum white noise, its explicit representation in Fock space, and necessary results of noncommutative stochastic analysis and integration are outlined. Algebraic differential equations that unify the quantum non Markovian diffusion with continuous non demolition ...
متن کاملObservation of quantum criticality with ultracold atoms in optical lattices.
Quantum criticality emerges when a many-body system is in the proximity of a continuous phase transition that is driven by quantum fluctuations. In the quantum critical regime, exotic, yet universal properties are anticipated; ultracold atoms provide a clean system to test these predictions. We report the observation of quantum criticality with two-dimensional Bose gases in optical lattices. On...

The issue of talent-discovering is one of the most important issues in the field of education and research that has always been a concern for educational systems. Studying the issues of identifying and guiding talented students can illuminate a large part of the activities of the executors and practitioners in order to accomplish their mission effectively. On the other hand, quantum physics has...
